Divine Mercy Sunday
I rejoice that souls ask for much,
because it is my desire to give much,
very much.
On the other hand,
I am sad when souls ask for little,
when they narrow their hearts.

Jesus to St. Faustina,
Diary, 1578

Marcel Dion - April 27, 2025 - Divine Mercy Sunday. For Linda and I, the feast of Divine Mercy is without a doubt one of our most cherished feasts. The promise the Lord makes to us on this feast day is quite literally staggering. We've discovered however that many don't realize how simple and straightforward access to this grace is; sacramental confession and receiving communion with trust in the Lord's mercy.
Here's the promise; not only are all our sins forgiven, but the Lord also wipes clean the temporal punishment due to all of our sins. Practically speaking this is comparable to the grace of a second baptism! If the Lord were to call us home as we were leaving mass we would immediately be ushered into the glory of heaven; no purgatory needed! Think of it! We are offered the gift of a completely clean slate and a fresh new beginning every year on this remarkable feast.
Some may argue that a comparable grace is offered to us through a plenary indulgence, but there is one significant difference, which makes this promise far superior to an indulgence. To receive the benefits of a plenary indulgence, perfect contrition for all our sins is required , whereas communion and trust in God's mercy is all that is required to receive this grace on Divine Mercy Sunday. Incredible!

Linda and I made this discovery over twenty years ago and have been sharing it with others ever since. At that time Pope John Paul II commissioned a prominent Polish theologian to thoroughly study the revelations to St Faustina. This phenomenal promise emerged and, at least in part, led to the Holy Father establishing the celebration of Divine Mercy Sunday throughout the entire world!

Clearly, as Jesus revealed to St Faustina, God's desire to give to us is so immeasurable as to be incomprehensible. Let's put our trust in the words quoted above, and boldly believe that it is God's earnest desire "to give much, very much!" The Lord can be trusted! Therefore let us dare to ask for much, very much!

"On that day the bowels of My mercy are open. I pour out a whole sea of graces upon the souls who approach the fountain of My mercy. The soul who goes to Confession and receives Holy Communion will obtain total forgiveness of sins and sorrows. On that day, all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are opened."
