John 14: 13-14

Whatever you ask for in my name I will do,

so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

If you ask me for anything in my name,

I will do it.

John 15: 7-8

If you remain in me

and my words remain in you,

you may ask for whatever you please

and you will get it.

It is to the glory of my Father that you should bear much fruit

and be my disciples.

John 15:16

I commissioned you to go out and to bear fruit,

fruit that will last;

so that the Father will give you

anything you ask him in my name.

John 16: 23-24

In all truth I tell you,

anything you ask from the Father

he will grant in my name...

Ask and you will receive,

and so your joy will be complete.

"Whatever You Ask..."

Sunday February 22, 2026 - Linda Dion - A person's last words before they pass away are always of great importance and St. John made sure that the last words of Jesus would be remembered throughout the ages so that their power would be experienced in every succeeding generation.  John's gospel is the only one that records Jesus full "farewell discourses" during His last meal with His disciples.  These words are beautiful and full of hope.  And obviously of great significance! They bring comfort and reassurance and they let us know just how much we inherit through His passion, death and resurrection.

What struck me the other day while reading this gospel is how many times, in just a few pages of text, we hear Jesus exhorting us to "ask anything" in His name.  When we do, the Lord lets us know that 4 things happen:

1.  The Father is glorified.

2.  We as His disciples bear much fruit.

3.  We  receive what we ask for.

4.  Our joy is made full.

This is just simply amazing and I'm not sure that anything else in this life could top this list!  God really does want us to ask much of Him because first of all, it glorifies Him through His Son.  It also enables us to bear much fruit; we receive what we ask for; and it fills us with joy as we witness to unbelievers what a wonderful Father we have!

In any case, Marcel and I believe that this is a good discipline because it helps us overcome that chronic unbelief in our soul, spirit and mind that undermines so much of what we desire to accomplish for the sake of the Kingdom.  Would you join us in asking much of our Heavenly Father?  We truly have nothing to lose, do we!
