"The Tree" Dream

Kathie was kind enough to let us publish another one of her dreams which she entitled "The Tree". It's a very simple dream to interpret and I wanted to post it in order to highlight a few basics about dream interpretation. Let's first have a look at the dream:
I dreamed of a huge spreading tree, like a maple tree, with all kinds of people, including me, in its branches.
When Kathie journaled her dream she wrote, "Trees symbolize leaders but I prefer to think it’s God sheltering all of us in His branches." And she is absolutely right! On both counts.
Trees can indeed represent leaders or nations. If we look up the book of Daniel, we see that king Nebuchadnezzar is likened to a tree:
Daniel 4: 7-9
I saw a tree in the middle of the world; it was very tall.
The tree grew taller and stronger until its top reached the sky and it could be seen from the very ends of the earth.
Its foliage was beautiful, its fruit abundant, in it was food for all.
For the wild animals it provided shade, the birds of heaven nested in its branches,
all living creatures found their food on it.

The same is said of Pharaoh of Egypt in the book of Ezekiel:

Ezekiel 31: 3, 6
What can compare with you for greatness:
I know: a cedar tree in the Lebanon with noble branches, dense foliage, lofty height.
All the birds of heaven nested in its branches;
under its boughs all wild animals dropped their young;
in its shade sat many, many people.
In these texts, the birds and animals seek shelter in the tree or under the tree. Great men like Nebuchadnezzar and Pharaoh were certainly raised up by God to be leaders of nations, providing their people and indeed all the creatures of these countries with a stable and prosperous life. But in this dream, the Lord was telling Kathie that He is the one and only Leader who can shelter all creatures perfectly and the only One who can feed, protect and nurture them all without fail. He is the great Leader who provides for and looks after all human beings, granting them food and protection. And there was Kathie, one of those beloved souls of the Lord, being abundantly blessed and protected in Him!

But there is more. In the parable of the mustard seed, Jesus says,

Matthew 12:31-32
The kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed which a man took and sowed in his field. It is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the biggest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air can come and shelter in its branches.

So in Kathie's dream, the tree also represents the Kingdom of God - God's nation - in which Kathie and other Christians find shelter and refuge, safe from all enemies.

There is so much to this dream! And yet it was so short! We see how a picture can actually be "worth a thousand words" and why God loves to work with images because they can impart much understanding with no words or very few words.

I wanted to post this dream as a sequel to Kathie's other dream, the "White Dog Dream" because there is a connection between the two. She had them a few months apart, which shows how the Lord can begin a conversation in one dream and continue on a similar theme in another dream altogether. In the White Dog Dream, the Lord was encouraging Kathie to seek her rest in Him through intimate times with Him (this would allude to prayer). In this Tree Dream, He was continuing along the same lines by revealing to her that the rest she is called to will come through confidence in the truth that she is well provided and cared for by Him, the One and Only Leader, the King of all Nations.

God doesn't necessarily grant us the whole message in one bite. Sometimes a dream contains a "word", sometimes a "sentence" and at other times it can contain the whole story. But one thing is always sure; God truly wishes us - just like the apostles did - to pursue Him as He begins a conversation with us through these night parables. He wants us to ask Him what they mean. He wants to see if we are truly interested in the revelation He wishes to impart to us in order to make us grow into holy men and women of God.
