Psalm 56:9-11

This I know,

that God is on my side.

In God whose word I praise,

in Yahweh whose word

I praise,

in God I put my trust

and have no fear;

what can mortal man

do to me?

"Linda - October 23, 2022 - This I know, that God is on my side" has to be one of my favourite passages in scripture.  As St. Paul says in Romans, "After saying this, what can we add?  If God is for us, who can be against us?" (Rom.8:31).  This truth has kept Marcel and I anchored and grounded from the very beginning of our life together.  We've had so many battles along the way, but knowing that God is with us, that He's on our side, that He cares for us and looks out for us has enabled us to rise up against our prime enemy who would like nothing better than to see us sink into emotional darkness, depression, despair, and dejection.  Which one of us hasn't had to battle one of those demons at least once in our lives?  They are always right there, ready to pounce on us, either directly or through the agency of other people.

Our Heavenly Father is with us all the time, with every breath that we take, always looking to save us, bless us and fill us with good things, regardless of what others might say, think or do. He will always be for us!  He wants to be on our side!

Psalm 27: 1-3

The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear?

Yahweh is the fortress of my life, whom should I dread?

When the wicked advance against me to devour me,

it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall.

Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear;

though war break out against me, even then will I trust."

When I read Psalm 56:9, it always makes me think of Psalm 27.  King David wrote both psalms, obviously in times of great peril and distress, when he knew great fear.  It seemed like everyone was out to get him, most especially King Saul.  But in the midst of his afflictions, he would pick up his lyre, lift up his voice to the Lord and declare the eternal truth: that God is indeed close to those who put their trust in Him alone!
